Frequently asked questions

I would like my child to participate. How do we register?

Please click Join to sign up for membership. You will be asked to fill out the registration information on the first page and complete payment on the following pages. You will receive two confirmation emails: one stating that we received your registration information and a second confirming that we received your payment.

Can I only join in the fall?
You can join at any time of year. Your membership will be valid for 1 year from when you joined.

How frequently do chapters run events?
Chapters hold 8 to 10 events per year. This is approximately 1 event per month during the school year.

How long are events?
Events are usually 1.5 to 2 hours in length.

Where are the events?
The location of events changes each month. Whenever possible, we try to visit the work place of the presenter to give members the experience of being in a lab, a wetland, etc. Sometimes, when a workplace is not conducive to having a group of young people visit, we book a room at a local university, college, library, or community centre. The location of each event is emailed to parents with information about the upcoming event each month.

When are the events?
The events occur after school or on weekends.

My child has a busy schedule. Does they have to attend every event?
Your child can attend as many events as they like. Some members attend every single event. Some attend only a subset of events.

Do you have a listing posted of my city’s events for the full year?
We do not post schedules and locations of events online. This is to protect the privacy of our members and also to ensure that event hosts can prepare for the correct number of participants. Chapters email notice of upcoming events to members once per month. Information is emailed at least 2 weeks before the event and members who would like to attend RSVP for the event. Sometimes chapters are able to send the schedule of several events in advance. However, this is not always possible because we are working with STEM experts and their workplaces, so we need to work around the schedule of our host.
